Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional Correspondent. Then, in 1992 she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist and anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable stories such as arms control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
